Career Gateway Homes

(New workforce housing model partners with Nationwide Children’s Hospital)

September 30, 2016 —The NRP Group LLC and Community Development for All People have developed Career Gateway Homes--a workforce housing model near Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio and have partnered with them as part of their Healthy Neighborhoods, Healthy Families Initiative to provide high quality housing, financial support, training and job placement for area residents. Additionally, workforce training will be offered to residents of Career Gateway Homes.

Career Gateway Homes offers 58 units which include a three-story apartment building with 44 homes and 14, three-story townhomes with attached garages. More than 3,200 square feet of common space offers a community room, kitchenette, computer facility, fitness center, laundry areas, common green space and a play area. Career Gateway Homes also offers a training center to assist residents with employment education and opportunities.

Units include new appliances, window treatments, washer/dryer hookups, carpeting, walk-in closets in select units, and built-in microwaves. Supportive services in the following areas will be offered to assist residents: Job-specific training and development; workforce development skills; transportation, nutrition programs; and social events. Community Development for All People, Columbus State Community College, Nationwide Children’s Hospital, and the Central Ohio Workforce Investment Corporation will deliver services to residents.

Career Gateway Homes was developed using a combination of Low Income Housing Tax Credits and a flex bridge loan administered through the Ohio Housing Finance Agency (OHFA). Other funding sources include Riverhills Bank, City of Columbus HOME Funds, Chase Foundation, and Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Equity investment was provided by Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing and its affiliate, the Ohio Capital Finance Corporation which provided a predevelopment loan.
