Race for a Place (to Call Home) Raises Dollars for Affordable Housing in Our Local Community

April 6, 2019 - The Ohio Housing Finance Agency (OHFA) and Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing (OCCH) cohosted the second annual Race for a Place (to Call Home) recently at McFerson Commons in downtown Columbus. The 5k race welcomed 406 runners, walkers, and ride-along stroller guests who participated to raise awareness about affordable housing and the positive impact it has on communities, from adding local jobs to providing quality, safe housing for individuals and families. The first place runner crossed the finish line in 19 minutes and 39.5 seconds. Thanks to the support of the affordable housing community in central Ohio, the race raised around $15,000 which was donated to Habitat for Humanity-MidOhio, an organization specializing in providing affordable housing and changing lives in our communities.

Runners and walkers enjoyed a scenic view of the Scioto Trail, caught sight of a bald eagle, and learned more about Ohio’s housing and homelessness challenges through strategically placed signs around the course. Participants enjoyed family-friendly face-painting, balloon animals, and photo props for the ‘extra’ creative. Our amazing sponsors helped us make housing a priority in Central Ohio on Saturday and we should be proud that our donation of time, energy and money will mean families will have their very own “Place to Call Home”!
