2015 Was Another Great Year for the OCCHTraining Academy

The OCCH Training Academy is now in its 12th year of offering our partners high quality property management training at affordable prices.  In 2015, OCCH offered over 40 separate training events as well as our very successful 3rd annual M2Con (Manager and Maintenance Conference).  Over 1800 people attended one of our live instructor-led sessions or one of twelve different webinars offered.  Our trainings covered topics in 5 different tracks—maintenance, operations, compliance, service coordination, and asset management—and offered entry-level as well as advanced classes.  Many of these classes were offered for free or at a deeply discounted price.

On-Demand eLearning

In 2016, OCCH plans to continue to offer all of the same great quality trainings that you have come to expect.  We know that this industry experiences a high level of turnover at the site level, so we will continue to offer entry-level classes in compliance, maintenance, fair housing, and landlord-tenant law.  We will also supplement these classes with higher level offerings for more experienced staff.  Plans are also well underway for our fourth annual M2Con on April 13th & 14th.  But we also realize that the time and expense required to travel to an instructor-led training is sometimes a barrier to getting needed training.  So in addition to offering basic compliance and fair housing classes regionally, and offering multiple webinars, OCCH is pleased to begin offering on-demand eLearning courses that can be accessed anywhere you have an internet connection and any time you wish.

Our current eLearning offerings include 5 courses developed by NeighborWorks America.  These classes are made up of individual self-paced modules and allow you to log in and out of the course at your computer or other electronic device anytime and anywhere your schedule allows.  The courses currently available include:

  • The Fundamentals of Asset Management
  • Board Oversight and Governance
  • Introduction to Affordable Housing Development
  • A Leader’s Guide to Ensuring Organization Health
  • Essential Skills for Supervisors

Refer to the 2016 OCCH Training Academy Calendar for more details on these and other upcoming classes.  OCCH will also be developing additional eLearning modules throughout the year, so be sure to keep checking back to the training page of the OCCH website (http://www.occh.org/training/training.html) to see our latest additions to the OCCH Training Academy Calendar.

A Continued Partnership with the Columbus Apartment Association (CAA) and the Midwest Affordable Housing Management Association (MAHMA)

OCCH has had a very productive partnership with the CAA and MAHMA for many years now.  OCCH partners have been able to attend any CAA or MAHMA training for a discounted price.  In 2016, OCCH has increased the discount available to OCCH partners to a very deep discount.  Most CAA and MAHMA trainings will be available to OCCH partners for discounts of 40% - 75%.  Most trainings will be priced between $30 and $100 per person.  By offering these steep discounts, we hope many more OCCH partners will take advantage of the many offerings of these two organizations.
