July 2, 2014 – Congressman Pat Tiberi, U.S. House of Representatives, Newark Mayor Jeff Hall, Representative Jay Hottinger, and development partners celebrated the opening of Applewood Village Apartments today, a rehabilitated family housing development in Newark, Ohio. An investment of $7 million renovated eight townhome apartment buildings and one 1-story building. The unit mix includes one- two- three- and four-bedroom apartments.

Applewood Village Apartments was originally constructed in 1980 and has a project-based Section 8 contract on all the units. The rehabilitation included expanding the current leasing office and adding a community space that includes a kitchenette and new multi-purpose room and computer room. A new patio with grill and picnic area was added as well. The development also features a playground, security, new lighting, a garden area, and parking.

The units feature new cabinets and countertops, energy efficient appliances, new HVAC systems, central air conditioning, ceiling fans, mini blinds, carpeting, patio or balcony, and extra storage.

Applewood Village Apartments was developed using a combination of low-income housing tax credits, tax-exempt bonds, Housing Development Assistance Program loan, and a Housing Development loan administered through the Ohio Housing Finance Agency, and funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Equity investment was provided by Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing.
