Starting at Home: Call for Abstracts and Session Proposals

November 15, 2018

The Ohio Housing Finance Agency and the Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing call for abstracts and session proposals for the 2019 Starting at Home Conference. Starting at Home is a biennial event that aims to strengthen the dialogue between research, policy, and philanthropy as a means to build better housing practices, policy, and outcomes.

Abstract and session overview: This conference seeks both abstracts for presentations and proposals for potential sessions. Submissions must highlight research, programs, or policies tied to affordable housing. Abstracts are welcome from community-based practitioners, academics, philanthropic organizations, government agencies, or individuals from related sectors (i.e. policy, technical, health, services, financing).

We strive to include speakers and topics that are representative of communities across diverse regions, disciplines, and needs. We welcome submissions that cover a broad range of policy, practice, philanthropy, service delivery, and strategies. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Fair housing issues
  • Housing and health
  • Aging in place
  • Rural housing and community issues
  • Innovative solutions for affordability and financing
  • Transportation
  • Revitalization and displacement
  • Philanthropic interventions in housing
  • Homelessness

Paper abstracts and session proposals must be 250 words or fewer. Session proposals should include a working title, brief description of the session content, and a short list of potential speakers. Deadline for submission is December 15, 2018. Decisions will be posted January 2019. Conference details: The conference will take place April 17-18, 2019 at the Renaissance Hotel in Columbus, Ohio. The Conference includes research presentations, panel discussions, and networking opportunities. Information on past panels can be found here.
