RRN/Wallick
OCIC in partnership with Resident Resources Network, Wallick’s Resident Services affiliate, provided eight students from Daines Village the opportunity to attend summer camp at Procter Center in London, OH. Procter Center is located on a 1,100-acre farm and offers over 6 acres of summer camp programming facilities. Procter offers lake-front activities, a swimming pool, tennis court, basketball court, and a farm dedicated to helping students learn about growing food. Students have the chance to engage in multifaceted socio-emotional curriculum throughout the summer at Procter Center. Hot meals are served daily for students and transportation is provided. OCIC is pleased to be a part of this impactful summer camp experience for youth residents of Daines Village. Thank you to Resident Resources Network for connecting to students to this summer camp and for strategizing for increased participation next year.

Homeport Zoo field trip
Homeport partners with Ethiopian Tewahedo Social Services (ETSS) and Concrete Orkidz (CO) to offer Summer Camps for 7 communities. More than 120 children experienced 8 weeks of a high-quality day camp programming that encourages healthy social interactions, prevents hunger and prepares youth for a successful school year. Both summer camp providers are skilled in curriculum based on Social and Emotional Learning (SEL). SEL is an integral part of education and human development that advances educational equity and excellence through authentic school-family-community partnerships to establish learning environments and experiences that feature trusting and collaborative relationships, rigorous and meaningful curriculum and instruction, and ongoing evaluation. A part of the SEL curriculum are field trips in the community. Field trips allow students to attend neighborhood facilities and institutions they otherwise might not have the opportunity to visit. This summer, Homeport youth residents were able to attend a local field trip to the Columbus Zoo. Thank you to Homeport for providing excellent summer camp programming for youth residents this year!
