OCCH Congratulates Woda Cooper Companies, Inc. for Affordable Housing Finance 2019 Readers’ Choice Award

October 28, 2019

Fairwood Commons, the first Passive House development in Ohio, was awarded the overall winner in Affordable Housing Finance’s annual Readers’ Choice Awards for the nation’s top developments of 2018 and 2019.

Woda Cooper Companies, Inc. and East Columbus Development Company, Inc., developed Fairwood Commons, 54 units of affordable senior housing, in the historic Franklin Park neighborhood in Columbus, Ohio. This Passive House project is designed to be energy efficient, comfortable, affordable, and ecological at the same time. Fairwood Commons emphasizes super-insulation and air-tightness combined with high-performance windows and proper orientation and shading to significantly reduce heating and cooling consumption, reducing utility costs for both the building and the resident.

Fairwood Commons amenities include a community programming and outreach room, on-site wellness center, supportive services, on-site management, grandchild playroom, storage, and recreational areas. A public Arts Garden funded by a grant through the Ohio Capital Impact Corporation’s (OCIC) Place-Based Strategies Program will feature sculptures from local artists. Congratulations on a well deserved award!
